The history of Islandhopping - our history- started in 1998 with the regimentation of the first tour in Croatia. It started with 60 guests still under the name of the ADFC Baden-Württemberg and developed through time into a successful story: a unique form of travelling was born and is still becoming more famous throughout the world.

Already in the following year a limited liability corporation is formed by the founders of “Islandhopping by Bike and Boat” Klaus Schenk and Peter Eich. Moreover eight further tours in Croatia were organised during this year.

The turn of the millennium represents another milestone for our history: With Southern Dalmatia we take the chance of including another second region into our programme - after Kvarner Bay. 600 guests are now en route with us on our ships. During this year Sascha and Edin joined the team who attend the company devotedly as tour guides, organizers and in the logistic sector ever since. We also expand the distribution of Islandhopping tours to travel agencies such as Wikinger, Pedalo, Eurobike, Velotours and others.

With the introduction of the first mountain bike- and hiking tour our spectrum was renewed in 2001. For the first time a final season tour of two weeks was organised which from now on shall lead us to still undiscovered regions year by year.

2002 already 1200 Islandhoppers are on tour with us – from now on not only on our boats in Croatia but also in Montenegro, Greece and Turkey. Our first - though still thin - catalogue promotes our journeys throughout this year.  We also close the "gap" between the Kvarner Bay and Southern Dalmatia - Islandhopping in Central Dalmatia is born (today known as "National Parks of Dalmatia"). We also undertake our first tours in the Aegean.

We locate more and more business partners who would like to sell our trips. Therefore soon Italians, Dutch and Americans were cycling with us around the islands. Islandhopping becomes bi-lingual.  Unfortunately we have to cancel our projected tour on the Cape Verde Islands because the Dutch skippers had to sell their boat.

2004 we are proudly publishing our first substantial catalogue with 52 pages and from now on count over 2000 guests. We extend our programme to Montenegro and Turkey. The first genuine three-master is offered to us and our programme now includes new tours in Istria, in the Turkish Aegean and around the Dodecanese Islands.

Islandhopping expands even further. We now have partner agencies in almost all German and English speaking countries. Our 68 page-long catalogue now lists, aside from the already mentioned tours, a trip along the Turkish south coast and with the Greek southern Aegean we reach as far as Rhodes. More satisfied guests than ever travel with us.

Our new catalogue is published in 2005. With 113 pages it is not only our largest but also our most beautiful catalogue we have produced so far. Our tour guides Tobi and Jennie had in previous years made a film about Islandhopping. At the Islandhopping party in 2004 it was so enthusiastically received that we decided to include it as a CD with the catalogue.

With the Cycladic Islands we are opening up a totally new island region in Greece. For the first time we also offer mountain bike tours in southern Dalmatia.

With our two bike and boat tours in Holland we venture for the first time into northern realms.

At the end of 2006 we move within Constance into a new office because we have outgrown the old one.

The past season was the most successful since the founding of the firm.
Approximately 2400 guests travelled with us and the recorded satisfaction of our guests was also better than ever.

The canal cruises in Holland on offer last year turned out to be adventurous enough, but the boats had nothing in common with our charming Mediterranean motor sailers. Therefore we will no longer persue our goals in this region and instead expand our offers in the Greek Mediterranean.

Completely new are our tours on the PANAGIOTA to the Ionian Islands and the historically rich Peloponnese and its islands.

Our anniversary: 10 years Islandhopping. As special as the cause is our program this year. We extend our hiking program over a brandnew tour in Istria. For the first time we organize a climbing tour in Istria and the Kvarner Bay.

Our proven, successful bicycle tours in Croatia, Greece and Turkey we offer furthermore. For the very first time we organize a bike & boat tour to Montenegro and Albania, starting from Dubrovnik. In Greece we travel to the three large islands of Samos, Chios and Lesbos. Thereby we offer Islandhopping tours in the whole Greek Archipelago.

But not only the Mediterranean is our destination also elsewhere fascinating islands and boats can be explored: Islandhopping exlores the Seychelles and Vietnam.

For the first time we grant an early booking discount to our guests: If you book a tour until 31th January 2009 you receive a reduction of 5 % on the basic tour price (to be continued throughout the next years).

The Seychelles and Vietnam are still solid parts of our offered programme and Canada a new project that unfortunately did not work out as we planned.

This year the management of Islandhopping was passed on to Klaus Schenk completely and we are moving to another business complex for the second time. Islandhopping becomes internationally known and the innovative Multi Adventure Cruise in Dalmatia leads to a sweeping success.

2010 a beneficial tour in cooperation with the German Cancer- Aftercare- Foundation for children was conducted. For some of the patients and their families a big adventure cruise through Dalmatia was organised on our boat the San Snova. This year the sound barrier with over 3000 guests was already broken in May. The price of the “Sonntag Aktuell” for special innovative tour concepts completes this exceedingly prosperous year.

During this season we are operating the first Islandhopping tour in Indonesia. We counted more than 3.500 guests who travelled with us throughout this year.

2011 Islandhopping is also present in northern waters with the boat, the Flying Dutchman. Denmark with the Southern Funen Archipelago Tour is our new destination. Additionally we are now offering two E-bike cruises in Dalmatia with the new boat Princeza Diana, the first deluxe boat category of the Islandhopping fleet. A mountain bike tour is offered on Corsica and Sardinia. For the first time a three-masted boat belongs to the fleet: the Artemis which operates tours on the Balearic Islands. All these tours and new boats enrich our program during this year. 

Once again a beneficial tour is offered to the German Cancer Aftercare Donation. A camera team of the SWR accompanies us and produces a broadcast for the German TV "I dreamed that I was healthy“.

With more than 4000 guests from all over the world it is the most successful year in our history.

During the season 2012 we are fulfilling a long planned dream: An Islandhopping Tour in Scotland.

New are also the Mountain Bike Cruise Dalmatia from Dubrovnik, a Multi Adventure Cruise and an E-bike Cruise- both operated in the Kvarner Bay. The Central Greek Aegean Tour has been revised and is now offered with a new itinerary.

Our Hotel & Bike Tour with baggage transport in Istria and Kvarner Bay enriches our program in a different way. It is the perfect choice for an extended stay in Croatia.

For the first time there is a photo competition- the 12 most beautiful photos will be used for the first official Islandhopping Calendar for 2013.

Of course we are continuing our cooperation with the German Cancer Aftercare Donation- and another beneficial tour is taking place in 2012.
