Special tour to the Islands of the Kvarner Bay and to Dalmatia
by bike and our premium ship Romantica

8 days /7 Nights, approx. 260 km (162 mi.) by bicycle

Introduction

On this special tour you explore by bike and and our premium ship Romantica the most beautiful islands of the Kvarner Bay, the famous Kornati archipelago, and the town of Trogir which is listed as a cultural heritage site.

On every turn and bend of this tour you discover small towns - rich in history - and amazing natural wonders.

The day begins with a hearty breakfast and then you start exploring the amazingly divers islands of the Kvarner bay. At noon and in the evening, the cook awaits you with a freshly prepared meal. You spend most nights in picturesque little harbours whose winding lanes and cosy cafes and bars invite you to a long leisure walk.

Course of the Tour - Day 1 (Sat) Omišalj – Malinska (approx. 30 km / 19 mi. by bicycle)
Mimosa
Individual arrival at Omisalj, a quiet harbour town on the island of Krk. Use the time before boarding for a first swim in the Adriatic or enjoy an ice-cream at the ice-cream parlour located directly at the waterfront. From 11 am on, you move into your cabins on the Romantica. After lunch you start your first bike tour across the island of Krk. Passing the Bay of Soline and riding through old island villages, the route takes you to Malinska, a small resort town. Here you spend your first night on board of the Romantica.
Day 2 (Sun) Krk Island and Rab Island (approx. 20 + 17 km / 12,5 + 10,5 mi. by bicycle)

In the morning you bicycle from Malinska to the town of Krk, where you have time for a walk through the worth-seeing old town. After lunch, the ship takes you to Lopar on the island of Rab, reputed to be one of the sunniest places in the entire Mediterranean. Starting from Lopar you bicycle on the well watered, green peninsula to the town of Rab, where your ship is already waiting for you. In the evening you have enough time for sight-seeing in the interesting island capital with its three bell-towers and to try out some Croatian wine in one of the cosy bars.

Day 3 (Mon) The islands of Rab and Pag (approx. 20 + 20 km / 12,5 + 12,5 mi. by bicycle)

In the morning you bike along the waterfront to the arid east of the island, where the rough, craggy rock formations resemble a moonscape. The route continues on to a bay with a sandy beach – quite rare in the Kvarner Bay islands – where you can go for a swim. During lunch on board you reach the island of Pag. Fig and olive trees thrive in the rough but appealing landscape of this island. The ubiquitous field walls were built over many centuries as protection against the wind. You bicycle from Lun to Novalja where the ship takes you still before nightfall to the old seafaring and resort town of Mali Losinj with its large harbour, numerous cafes and gaily painted houses.

Day 4 (Tue) The island of Losinj (approx. 20 km / 12,5 mi. by bicycle)

Along the seaside walk you cycle from Mali Losinj to the south of Losinj and visit the picturesque small harbour of Veli Losinj which is dominated by the huge church of St. Anton. Before you return to the boat you will have enough time to enjoy the lively harbour and the famous ice-cream. In the afternoon cross-over to Molat island which is well-known for its lush vegetation. If the weather is good, the boat will stop for a swimming break. You will spend the night in the harbour of Molat.

Day 5 (Wed) Islands of Molat and Dugi Otok (approx. 20 + 30 km / 12,5 + 19 mi. by bicycle)

Grandiose vistas across the deep-blue sea and the surrounding islands will impress you on the bike trip on the island of Molat. Starting from Sali you visit in the afternoon the Telascica nature park whose salt lake and steep cliffs above the sea are most impressive. After a walk along the cliffs you return to Sali, where you should not miss a visit to the ice-cream parlour at the harbour.

Day 6 (Thu) The island of Dugi Otok (approx. 20 + 20 km / 12,5 + 12,5 mi. by bicycle)

On the so-called “spice-island” of Dugi Otok today's bike-tour will start again in Sali and you will ride on a road nearly free of traffic to Savar, where the boat awaits you for lunch. In the afternoon you continue cycling on the panoramic road and finally you will reach the bay of Božava, which is surrounded by woods of pine, agave and tamarisk trees. Overnight stay in Bozava.

Day 7 (Fri) National park of Kornati and Primosten - Trogir (approx. 45 km/28 mi. by bicycle)

In the morning you will go for a longer cruise through the national park of Kornati, an archipelago surrounded by crystal clear water to Primosten. On your last bike tour you will visit small villages in the hinterland, biking on roads with little traffic until you reach Trogir. In the evening you can make a sight-seeing tour through the famous the UNESCO-protected Old Town of Trogir and after dinner you will have to say good bye to the crew as well as to your tour-guides.

Day 8 (Sat) Trogir (Departure)
Trogir Harbor
The guests are asked to check out after breakfast, i.e. by 9 am. On request we will organise for you a collective transfer back to Omisalj (duration approx. 4 hrs).

The bike routes require a basic level of fitness, which you should have acquired by steady cycling.  The routes can reach an altitude of 200 to 500 metres.  The daily routes, of 30-60 km, cover hilly and mountainous terrain and can be completed without time constraints.  You will also come across some longer and rather steep climbs, where walking your bike is of course permitted.  The tour guides will inform you about the course of the tour in due time.  You can also choose to skip a bike-tour and spend a day sunbathing on the ship instead. The roads are mostly asphalted and there is little traffic outside of holiday-periods. You can decide every day for yourself, whether you would like to cycle individually, using the maps provided, or join one of the tour guides (or individual participants).
