Islandhopping by Boat and Bicycle
Cycling Cruise from Dubrovnik to Trogir - Itinerary

1st Day Embarkation at Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik

Individual arrival at Dubrovnik either by car or plane. After checking in, the early afternoon is at our own disposal for a walk through this interesting town and its excellently preserved fortress. In the late afternoon we participate in guided tour through Dubrovnik. Dinner on board.

2nd Day Slano - Ston - Peljesac - Korcula (approx. 30 km / 19 mi. by bicycle)

Korcula

After crossing over to Slano our first cycle tour leads us to Ston on the peninsula of Pelješac. The amazing fortification fortress of Ston, built in the 15th century, is the longest defense wall of whole Europe. After a coffee break in Ston we continue cycling to Prapratno, where the boat is awaiting us for the short sail to Korcula and the island capital by the same name, which competes with Venice for the honor of being the birthplace of Marco Polo, the famous explorer. Here we have sufficient time to explore this beautiful town at leisure.

3rd Day Islands of Korcula and Lastovo (approx. 30 km / 19 mi. by bicycle)

Korcula Pupnat bay

In the morning we explore the island of Korcula by bicycle. Our bike tour leads from Korcula town to Brna on old pass roads past the famous Pupnat Bay. From Brna the boat takes us to the island of Lastovo, one of the smallest inhabited islands in the Adriatic. Already the emperor Augustus appreciated its mild climate and in Roman times it was even named "Augusta Insula" after him. The islanders, little more than 1000, still live today mainly off fishing the extremely rich waters, agriculture and wine culture. On Lastovo the whole afternoon is at our own disposal for swimming or relaxing.

4th Day Islands of Lastovo, Korcula and Vis (approx. 25 + 30 km / 16 + 19 mi. by bicycle)

Islandhoppin ship San Snova

In the morning we explore the island of Lastovo by bicycle. Here grows the yellow-golden white wine "Marastina", which is known well beyond Croatia's borders. After our ride on Lastovo, the ship takes us back to Korcula. From Brna we cycle later on to Vela Luka passing by Blato, which like Rome, was built on seven hills, to Brna. The peacefulness and remoteness of luscious gardens with large cypresses dominate the appearance of Korcula, perhaps the most beautiful Dalmatian island.

5th Day Islands of Vis and Hvar (approx. 32 km / 20 mi. by bicycle)

Hvar town

Vis is the Croatian island located furthest from the mainland. 2.000 years ago it was already a Greek colony by the name of Issa. On account of its strategically important location, it was along with Lastovo a military zone prohibited to foreign tourists until 1995. On today’s cycling tour we will explore this likeable island. After lunch crossover to Hvar. Once arrived in the town of Hvar we will undertake a guided tour around the town across the large Renaissance square which is lined with cathedral and many late gothic palaces. We may also climb to the Spanish fort.

6th Day Island of Hvar  (approx. 20 + 25 km / 12.5 + 15 mi. by bicycle)

Hvar island

Along today's bicycle route from Hvar town to Stari Grad on an almost car-free pass road, small Island villages with their attractive stone houses are lined up like pearls on a chain. After lunch in Stari Grad, the next bike tour takes us to the idyllic harbors of Jelsa and Vrboska, inviting us to take a long break for swimming and ice cream. For the night, we return again to Stari Grad, which in recent years has developed into a Mecca for artists and art lovers.

7th Day Islands of Solta (approx. 18 km / 11 mi. by bicycle)

Solta

After crossing over to Stomorska on the island of Solta, we set out on our last bicycle tour. Walled-in fields, olive groves, carob and fig trees line the road. The spicy aroma of lavender and rosemary accompanies us on the ride across this quiet island. At Maslinica we load up our bikes and enjoy the last crossing to Trogir. There we have enough time to participate in a guided tour through the historical centre of Trogir, which is listed as a World Heritage site.

8th Day Disembarkation at Trogir

General Information

Alterations
We reserve the right to make alterations on the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions as well as organisational necessities.

Requirements (Level 2-3)
The bike-tours require a basic level of fitness from participants, which they should have acquired from steady cycling. The routes can reach an altitude of 200 - 500 meters. The day-tours from 30 to 50 km will take us through hilly and mountainous terrain and will be completed without any time-constraints. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs, during which they are, however, also permitted to push their bikes. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike-tour. We will traverse mostly asphalted roads, which are rarely traveled on outside the holiday seasons. Each day you can either decide to bike alone, using the information and maps provided, or join the two tour guides or other participants. Bike helmets are required on all cycle tours. They are available on board in limited number (reservation is necessary).

Bringing Children
We believe that only children in a good physical condition and of a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to master the bike-tours on their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1,40 m (4.6 ft.)

Catering
The cook on board is a member of the crew and prepares a hearty breakfast and two warm dishes a day.

Participants:

  • Minimum: 16 participants
  • Maximum: 30 participants
