Journey and Arrival
Travelling to Indonesia, entering the country and spending your holiday there requires a certain amount of preparation due to formalities and inoculations. In order to avoid last minute pressure, it is best to have booked your tour at least two months prior to the scheduled departure date.
Flights to Indonesia are best booked through your travel agent. Denpasar on Bali is the arrival and departure airport. Connecting flights (usually via Bangkok or Singapore) with Thai Airways or Singapore Airlines are offered, for example, from Munich, Frankfurt am Main, and Zurich. The flight to Bangkok or Singapore takes about 11 hours from Germany, the connecting flight to Denpasar about 3 hours. The earlier a flight is booked, the better the chances of finding a reasonably priced ticket. Let your travel agent advise you on the available flight connections best for you.
Visa Requirements
In order to enter Indonesia, all foreigners require a passport valid for at least six months as well as a valid visa, which can be obtained from the Indonesian Embassy. The following documents have to be submitted, either personally or by mail: passport valid for at least six more months (original document, not a copy!), completely filled-in application form, two up to date color passport photographs (3,5 x 4,5 cm), copy of the passport ( page with name and date of birth), copy of the flight ticket or the travel route issued by the travel agent, and a return envelope with sufficient postal stamps for registered mail. The visa fee is approx. 45.00 Euros per person.
Please take into account that the processing takes about 2 weeks.
There is also the possibility to obtain a visa on arrival. It is issued on entering the country and costs 25 USD for a sojourn of up to 30 days. For this visa, too, an up to date passport photo is required. It is advisable, to have the precise amount of the fee in US Dollars ready. It is also possible, however, to exchange Euros for dollars at the airport; change will be given in Indonesian Rupies.
There are no obligatory vaccinations for travelling to Indonesia. Institutes for tropical diseases recommend, however, a vaccination against Hepatits A/B and possibly against Typhoid. Since some of these vaccinations require multiple shots, leave yourself plenty of time in planning them. Be sure that you have sufficient protection against Tetanus as well as Polio and Diptheria (one vaccination, so-called triple combination). Prophylactic Malaria treatment is not really necessary, a slight Malaria risk exists only on Lombok. We recommend that you see your family doctor or a doctor for tropical disease at least two months before the tour in order to get information and advice.
