  • The 2004 Olympics brought about a very positive change to the face of the lively 5-million strong metropolis. Large sections of the inner city were transformed into pedestrian areas and a large archaeological park was created that, stretches from the Acropolis across ancient Agora to Kerameikos, the old potters’ and cemetery district. Enjoy an unforgettable stroll through the many winding alleys of the Plaka, the charming Old Town district, where you should not only stop to admire the many different souvenirs on offer, but should also make yourself comfortable in one of the countless cafés.
  • The accommodation facilities we recommend are situated in the centre of Athens, allowing you to reach most of the tourist sights by foot.

  • If you wish to stay in a homey atmosphere in the heart of Plaka, the historical center of Athens, we recommand the small hotel Metropolis. It is located catty-corner from the large "Metropolis" church (near the Syntagma Metro station).

  • The completely renovated hotel offers simple, cozy rooms with bath, air-conditioning and TV; some rooms have balconies. Unfortunately, the hotel does not offer breakfast, but there are numerous cafes in the neighbourhood where you can breakfast.

Additional nights on the island of Aegina
  • If the hubbub of the city does not agree with you and you prefer instead a few relaxing days on a Greek island, we can recommand the island of Aegina in the Argo-Saronic Gulf. From the mainland, Aegina is one of the best connected islands: from Athen's harbour, Piraeus, it can be reached in half an hour by highspeed ferry.

  • Aegina is known as the island of pistachio nuts but offers aside from culinary delights many other points of interest. You can visit, for example, the famous temple of Aphaia and the monastery of St.Nektarios. Beautiful sandy beaches and inviting tavernas guarantee rest and relaxation.
