What is Island hopping?

The trips, we offer in Croatia, Greece and Turkey are combined bicycling and ship trips with experienced multilingual tourguides. Normally you will be accompanied by two tourguides, who will guide you during the cycling tours and will give you an understanding of the country and its inhabitants. During your trip you will be accomodated on a romantic motorised sailing boat or a motor yacht. The cook will spoil you with typical food of the country. Our cycling tours are performed without hurry, as it is very important to us, that you have enough time to enjoy the landscape and to gain impressions. We provide well maintained rental bicycles on every trip. 

ISTRIA

Brijuni National Park
  • Character: The Istria tour is a  combination of bicycle tours along the flat Istrian coast und tours into the hilly midland. You will explore the most popular part of the Croatian coast and pass worth seeing historical cities.
  • Highlights: the amphitheater in Pula, the National park of Brijuni, the basilica of Euphrasius in Porec, the artist town of Groznjan and the pittoresque Old Town of Rovinj.
  • Requirements: Level 1-2. The bike routes require a basic level of fitness, which you should have acquired by occasional or daily cycling.  The routes reach a maximal height of 200 m. The daily routes of 30 km (18 mi.) on average, cover hilly terrain and can be completed without time constraints. Not all the roads are asphalted (ca. 20 % gravel roads).
  • Accomodation: Ship Tarin (maximum 22 participants)
  • Duration of the tour: 7 days. You can combine the Istria tour with our tours in the Kvarner Bay.
  • Catering: half -board.

KVARNER BAY BY BICYCLE AND SHIP

  • Character: The cycle tours on the islands offer beautiful views over the sea, the circumjacent islands and the nearby Croatian mainland again and again. During the nights your ship will stay in worth seeing towns or small and quiet harbours. Scanty islands like Rab or Pag and fertile and green islands like Losijn or Krk alternate.
  • Highlights: The harbour of Cres, the small sailor place Veli Losinj, the cycling on Dugi Otok with its breath taking views, the town of Rab with its four famous bell towers, the town of Krk and the small pirate town of Vrbnik with the narrowest alley of the world.
  • Requirements: Level 2-3. The journey to Kvarner Bay belongs to the more challenging tours of our programme. On most of the days we offer two cycling tours, which normally start with a longer ascent. As you will always meet the ship for lunch (except on Krk island) you have the opportunuty, to cycle for only half a day and to take the ship afterwards. Normally you will use asphalted roads, which are low frequented out of holiday times.

  • Duration of the tour: 1 week, You can combine this tour with our other tours in Kvarner Bay (mountainbike or hiking) or with our Istria tour.

KVARNER BAY BY MOUNTAIN BIKE

  • Character: With this journey the sporty aspect stands more strongly in the foreground than with our trekking bike journeys. Nevertheless you'll always have enough time to enjoy the beautiful landscape and to visit the sightseeings. Often you'll use single trails that are only known to insiders and in this way you have the possibility of learning to know the islands from a side which remains often hidden other travellers.
  • Highlights: the harbor of Cres, the seafaring town of Veli Losinj, the city of Rab with its four famous bell towers, the Old Town of Krk und the pirate town of Vrbnik with the narrowest alley of the world.
  • Requirements: The tours are of low to medium level of difficulty, divided into daily stages of 40-60 km on mostly peaceful asphalted roads, concrete coastal paths, nature trails and single trails at an average altitude of 300 metres, and can be completed without time constraints.  You can always decide to skip a bike-tour and spend a day on the ship. The daily program is of course always dependent on the weather conditions and the instructions of the captain.

  • Character: The hiking journey forms an exception under our journeys, since it is the only one which is accomplished afoot. More intensively than with the bike you have the possibility of experiencing the individual islands since also off asphalted ways one runs and sufficient time remains to stay for a while at beautiful places.
  • Highlights: the raising station for goose vultures on the island of Cres, the city of Krk, wanderings through the so-called Dundo-forest on the island of Rab, the city of Rab with its four famous bell towers, the small seafaring town of Veli Losinj.
  • Requirements: Light to average hikes ranging from 4 to 5 hours over mostly stony chalk/limestone ground. Hiking shoes/boots recommended.

  • Ship: Tarin (maximum 22 participants)
  • Duration of the tour: 1 week. You can combine the hiking tour with our bike tours in the Kvarner Bay (mountain bike or trekking bike) or with our bike tour to Istria.

NATIONAL PARKS OF DALMATIENS

  • Character: This journey offers a mixture from mainland routes and routes over the islands that are in proximity to the coast. The visited islands are thinly settled and usually it stands the breath-robbing beautiful nature in the foreground. In addition, also the culture forms an important part of the journey, because the cities of Trogir, Sibenik and Zadar have an rich historical inheritance, whose inspection is worthwhile itself.
  • Highlights: the Old Town of Trogir, the Cathedral of Sibenik, the so-called Krka -waterfalls, the city of Zadar, the National Park of the Kornati islands.
  • Requirements: Level 2. This tour to the National Parks of Dalmatia is one of the easiest in our programm. Only on the mainland routes and on Dugi Otok are to be overcome larger upward gradients, which are however not too long. The bicycle tours lead mostly across little traveled roads.

SOUTHERN DALMATIA

  • Character: The constant change of breath robbing views, unaffected nature and cities worth seeing makes this journey one of the most varied in our program. Although Southern Dalmatia is the inhabitant-poorest region of Croatia, especially the capitals of the islands rank such as Korcula and Hvar among the most beautiful places of Croatia, and did not lose anything from their charm also by the increasing tourism. In addition, Split with its big-city flair is worth an attendance and forms an interesting contrast to the otherwise rather contemplative localities on this journey.
  • Highlights: the Old Town of Trogir, the city of Split with the famous palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, the city and the island of Korcula, the island of Mljet, which is famous for its honey, the city of Hvar.
  • Requirements: Level 2 to 3. The journey belonged in Southern Dalmatia to the more fastidious routes of our program and lies from the degree of difficulty still somewhat over the journey into the Kvarner bay. On most days two bicycle tours stand on the program, which begin mostly with a longer rise on the island backs.  The routes usually lead across asphalted roads, which are not strongly traveled outside of the vacation times.

SOUTHERN DALMATIA MTB

  • Character: If you decide for this tour, an extremely varied journey with ship and mountain bike is waiting for you. As an modification of our classical Southern Dalmatia route this MTB tour differs only by the choice of the bicycle distances.
  • Highlights: the Old Town of Trogir, the city of Split with the great palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian, the island of Korcula and its beautiful capital of the same name, the island of Mljet, which it famous for its honey and the city of Hvar.
  • Requirements: (level 2-3) The bike-tours require a basic level of fitness from participants, which they should have acquired from steady cycling. The tours will take us up to a height of between 200 and 500 m above sea-level. The day-tours from 30 to 60 km will take us through hilly and mountainous terrain and will be completed without any time-constraints. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs. 40 % of the journey are put back on usually calm bitumen routes. The remainder of the distance consists of concrete disk promenades, nature ways and single trails.

DALMATIA FROM TROGIR TO DUBROVNIK
  • Character: For those who would like to experience the region Southern Dalmatia in an intense way, but would not like to miss Dubrovnik, this tour is the perfect choice. Within two weeks you have the chance to get to know the region of South Dalmatia and its most important towns and islands. Within that time your tour guides will show you the nicest spots and cities of one of the most interesting regions of Croatia. In contrast to our one week trip you will do some cycling tours on the mainland, which eill give some additional impressions.
  • Highlights: The Towns of Trogir und Split with the Palace of Diokletian, the town and island of Korcula, the honey island Mljet, die town of Hvar and the world heritage town of Dubrovnik
  • Requirements: Level 2-3. The tour in South Dalmatia belongs to the more ambitious tours of our programme and  its level of difficulty is a bit higher than that of our Kvarner Bay tour.The roads are mostly asphalted and there is little traffic outside of holiday-periods.

GREEK AEGEAN FROM BODRUM TO KUSADASI

  • Character: This tour is a combination of short and hilly cycling tours on the northern Dodecanese-Islands and longer and more challenging toursalong the Turkish coast and into the Turkish midland. The beauty of the landscapeof the region is fascinating and offers lots of insights into the rural live of Greece and especially Turkey. The region is rich of antique sights and legends: enthusiasts of the old Greek culture will get their money worth on that tour.
  • Highlights:  the Asclipion of Kos, the cave of the Apocalypse and the St.-John´s-Monastery on Patmos Island, the tunel of Eupalinus and the Sanctuary of Hera on Samos Island, the antique places of Ephesos, Milet and Didyma
  • Requirements: Level 2-3. through hilly and mountainious area on mostly asphalted roads.

GREEK AEGEAN FROM MARMARIS TO RHODES

  • Character: This tour consists mainly of longer and more challenging cyclings on the southern Dodecanese Islands. The landscape is very attractive: The Islands of Rhodes and Symi delight with their diversified nature, guests, who are interested in geology will have a highlight with the volcanic island of Nissiros. Concerning the cultural aspects the focus is mainly on the medieval and new history of Greece. The crusaders, who had their headquarter on Rhodes island, left impressing buildings. In the harbour of Symi you still can imagine the wealth of the inhabitants, which they owed to the sponge diving.
  • Highlights: the harbour of Symi, the monastery of Panormitis on Symi Island, the volcano of Nissiros, the Acropolis of Lindos and the crusader´s town and Palace of the Grand Master in Rhodes.
  • Requirements: Level 2-3. through hilly and mountainious area, mainly on asphalted roads. The toour belongs to the more challenging trips of our programme.

  • Duration of the tour: 1 week. The tour can be combinedwith our tour to the South Coast of Turkey.

 

THE CYCLADE ISLANDS TO SERIPHOS

  • Character: The Cyclade Islands are the heart of the Greek archipelagos. Nowhere else Greece is more typical than here. Gleaming white cubic houses with blue shutters and labyrinth lanes give the typical architectonic flavour to the island towns. On your one week trip you will get to know the nothern islands of this archipelago, which is the cradle of the first European civilised society 5,000 years ago. Significant monuments of the eventful history make this journey a great experience as well as the varied landscape. 
  • Highlights: The Chora of Seriphos, the classic old town of Ermoupolis on Syros, the sanctuary of Apollo on Delos Island, little Venice on Mykonos, the dove towers of Tinos, the picturesque island capital of Andros.
  • Requirements: Level 2-3. Mainly short, partly  ambitious tours through hilly or mountainious area, only on asphalted roads.

  • Character: Among the Ionian Islands as considerable islands rank as Corfu and Zakynthos. On the bicycle tours you become acquainted with Greece from its greenest side. Nature lovers come fully at their expense. But not only the breath-robbing nature, but also the fantastic sand beaches and the lively ports, in which the long presence of the Venetians left a still noticeable Italian flar, make this journey expressed varied.

  • Highlights: the Old Town of Corfu, the island of Paxos with its beautiful olive groves, the island of Kephallonia with its harbour town Fiskardo and its phantastic mountain world, the island of Ithaka, which is supposed to be the homeland of the hero Odysseus, the beaches of Zakynthos and the ancient city of Nicopolis

  • Requirements: Level 2 to 3. Combination of shorter and longer, partially more fastidious routes by hilly to mountaineous area, exclusive on asphalted roads.

SOUTH COAST OF TURKEY

  • Character: This route leads along the Turkish south coast and into the Turkish inland. On this journey intensive experiencing of nature is the center of attention, you receive deep views of the traditional rural life of Turkey. Rich certifications of the Lycian past, like the 2400 years of old rock graves of Kaunos ensure for the fact that also culture lovers come at their expense.
  • Highlights: the Sakklikent-Canyon, the rock graves of Kaunos, the abandoned, old Greek city Kayakoey, the lagoon of Oeluedeniz, the Bazar of Marmaris
  • Requirements: Level 2-3. Predominantly longer, partially more challenging routes by hilly to mountainious area, predominantly on asphalted roads. Occasionally also nature ways are driven on. The wheel distances are altogether more fastidious than those on our journeys in the Greek Aegean.

  • Duration of the tour: 1 week. The journey is combinably with our journey Greek Aegean from Marmaris to Rhodes.
