Additional nights in Marmaris and surroundings

Although Marmaris is an ideal starting point for our tour to the Greek Aegean South and along the Turkish coast, and the place itself a touristic centre with beautiful beaches, it has only very few interesting things worth visiting. So if you wish to extend your vacation in Marmaris itself, we recommend that you stay only one to three days. If you want to extend your vacation for a whole week, the Datca peninsula located 35 km southwest of Marmaris or the region around Dalyan 50 km away have much more to offer.

The almost 100 km-long Datca Peninsula is virtually untouched by tourism. Here, Turkey’s original character with traditional villages and almost pristine nature is still very much in evidence. Especially rewarding is a visit to the ancient site of Knidos at the northwest end of the peninsula, which had its hay day in Hellenistic times, as attested by splendid buildings surviving to this day.

Dalyan is located in Lykia, one of the prettiest regions in Turkey, in a beautiful river landscape, right next to the ruins of the ancient city Kaunos and its famous Lykian rock graves. In addition, Dalyan is only 20 km away from Dalaman airport.

If you wish to extend your vacation in Marmaris itself, we recommend the 5-star-hotel Maritim Grand Azur. Only a seaside promenade separates the hotel from the long sand/gravel beach of Marmaris. The hotel was thoroughly renovated in 2008. The centre of Marmaris is only 3 km away and there are frequent dolmus connections into town.

The hotel has 288 rooms with bath/WC, telephone, TV, mini bar, safe, air-conditioning and a pay internet connection. The hotel also has an indoor and outdoor restaurant as well as several small shops. The pleasantly landscaped outdoor area includes spacious pools on two levels, sun terraces as well as an indoor swimming pool with whirlpool, fitness room, sauna, hamam and various sports facilities.

Dalyan Resort in Dalyan

The 4-star-hotel Dalyan Resort is located at the edge of Dalyan, directly at the river landscape, with a fantastic panoramic view of the Lykian rock graves. The centre of Dalyan is about 1 km away. Economical water-taxis take you from the hotel to the beach (ca. 35 min.) and the town centre (ca. 10 min).

The complex consists of two-storey-houses with a personable, cared-for atmosphere – our tip for those who are looking for special, more individual accommodations. Available are 58 tastefully furnished rooms with shower/WC, telephone, TV, minibar, safe, air-conditioner and a terrace. The pretty gardens offer a pool with a sun terrace; there is also a sauna, a hamam and a tennis court. At the river, canoes and bicycles can be rented.

Resort Select Maris on the Datca Peninsula
