Hi, I am Miriam and 26 years old.
Already as a child I felt very happy on various vacations in Crete and so it is surely no coincidence that I finally found myself in Greece for a whole year: During two semesters of studying at the Aristotelio University and an internship at the Goethe Institute in Thessaloniki I made intensive use of the opportunity to explore some regions of the country. Since this wonderful period with great people, I have been backpacking under the Greek sun whenever I could. Thanks to my knowledge of the language learnt during my various sojourns (with language courses), I get around easily in daily life and really enjoy my encounters with Greeks. So, despite some occasional linguistic misunderstandings, I feel that the country is like a second home to me where – should even English occasionally fail – I can make myself understood by using hands and feet.
In my own surroundings I usually get around by bike and - thanks to Island Hopping – I also discovered my love for tinkering with and repairing bikes.
A profound memory of mine is exploring Angkor Wat in Cambodia on an ancient decrepit bicycle – and its unpadded saddle: what a difference to the previous day, when we driven around on some motorized vehicle without experiencing nearly as much of the countryside and its people. Riding a bike shows me again and again how much one can become part of the surroundings and really get in touch with it, instead of rushing along with only the destination in mind.
I’m really excited about the new experiences and perspectives coming my way through Island Hopping and I can hardly wait to explore the islands with you by bike and boat.
For you I’d like to be a pleasant companion on a tour that you will always remember with pleasure.
I am looking forward to that!
